Challenge Gary

The 2.6 challenge on Sunday 26 April 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on charities who rely on fund raising events for income. Our awareness week plans for August 2020 are being reworked as we are unable to hold planned events due to the potential for ongoing social distancing. Many of our members are in the high-risk group; we will not be able to hold a get together until it is safe to do so.
Executive committee member, Gary Taylor, who is tube fed, has been training for an event that has now sadly been postponed. He was planning a 375-mile 6-day cycling challenge, which was due to start from PINNT’s HQ in Christchurch, finishing at the annual gathering in Durham. The funny thing about this is Gary has set himself the challenge, he has never done such an event before. He has successfully finished the London Marathon twice (full story will come later in the year), ‘Challenge Gary’ was created to push him outside of his comfort zone. The mere thought of 375 miles on a bicycle did not make him feel comfortable, literally!
As the 40
th London Marathon has been cancelled, a new event has been created to encourage people to support the charities who will miss the funds it would have generated. People were asked to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 that suits their skills and complete it on Sunday 26 April. Gary, always up for the challenge saw this as a great opportunity to do an indoor 26 miles cycle race. He will start at 12 noon on Sunday 26 April, we hope to have the start, and subsequent live steaming during the expected two-hour event on our
our Facebook page
This event will be a precursor event to the indoor event he will be doing during HAN week, 3 – 9 August 2020, then, when he is allowed out on the planned route, he will do the road event.
Please support Gary as much as you can, every donation counts. We know these are difficult times for many people, but if each person gave a minimum donation of £2.60 (10p per mile), or more we can support Gary with his challenge and help PINNT. You can
sponsor Gary here - thank you in advance.
