For some people who are feed via enteral feeding tubes (NG, PEG, etc.) there is a requirement for the administration of some or all medications to be given in this manner.
The ideal solution would be that all medications were available in solutions but this is not always the case as some medications can only be made in a solid form due to issues such as stability,etc. The result is that giving medication via enteral tubes is more difficult than many may think. Although many tablets can be crushed and mixed with water, some medication is coated with an enteric coating meaning it is not digested by the acid in the stomach and reaches the small intestine......
