PINNT Impact Award

PINNT establishes a new award during 2025

The PINNT Impact Award will be the gift of the trustees and executive committee for an individual or organisation who they feel have made a significant contribution to PINNT and the wider community for home artificial nutrition. It will not necessarily be awarded annually.

It will recognise outstanding contributions to the field of nutrition and health, whether through research, advocacy, or direct support.

Given these criteria, we are delighted to announce that the winner of the inaugural PINNT Impact Award is Steven Pearson-Brown.

Steve had been in and out of hospital for treatment of severe Anorexia Nervosa spanning thirty years. Throughout these periods in hospital, he have been fed intermittently via a nasogastric (NG) tube since the age of fifteen; only with this nutritional support was he able to maintain a remotely healthy weight. Following many unsuccessful “normal” treatment attempts, it was decided that he was unable to physically or mentally manage to maintain a healthy weight with life-long nutritional support, and he was put onto enteral feeding permanently; at first by NG tube and now by PEG.

Steve joined PINNT in 2006 and I remember the day he first came to London for a PINNT meeting – the poor man was petrified by the Big Smoke! Steve hit the ground running; his roles have been diverse, having performed the role of General Secretary, EC member, external representative and literature coordinator, to name but a few. He does this while also having a full-time job. Steve thrives on teamwork but is also competent with solo working to fulfil PINNT aims and objectives. Steve openly says, “It is through the support and understanding of PINNT that I have been able to grow in strength and confidence; enough to accept and embrace my treatment and, as a result, my life has improved so much. I feel a deep gratitude to PINNT and everything that the team does, and I want to help PINNT to continue reaching out to and supporting all those affected by artificial nutrition.”

PINNT believe that Steve is a worthy recipient of our IMPACT Award – it is now time to express our gratitude to Steve for the amazing contribution has he made. His latest project in terms of the HAN waste survey and report demonstrates his commitment while also going through a difficult time health-wise. It slowed him down but did not distract his determination to bring an important topic to the wider world of HAN.

Steve, you are loved and appreciated by your PINNT family. Congratulations on your richly deserved recognition.
