Halloween comes to the Dudley Group Meeting

31/10/2012
October was the time for PINNT members to get together for mutual support at Russell s Hall Hospital, Dudley.

Following on from its success, we re hoping you and your family or friends will come along next time to meet up under the banner of PINNT in the spring of 2013. The aim is to establish this ongoing local group which encourages contact between patients, as so much can be learned from others.

A group of people met at Russell s Hall Hospital one afternoon in October; around half were full members, the remainder family or other interested parties. The emphasis was on getting to know other people in similar situations, to realise that there are others out there, living life, and with experiences to share; and chat you did, it was hard to get a word in edgeways. No one was allowed to forget that our theme was Halloween as advertised by the spooky skeleton on the door and the collection of witches hats and very convincing outfits worn by several there. The winners of the light hearted Halloween Quiz went home with a small gift as did the winner of the best outfit.

Kathleen and Paul, PINNT members, led the proceedings, providing tea and coffee with Val (Paul s wife) and Kathleen s delicious array of homemade cakes, and making sure everyone felt welcomed, assisted by a PINNT committee member, nutrition team members from Russell s Hall and representatives from your Homecare Services.

The afternoon passed quickly; all had some fun, exchanged experiences and tips, found out what they had in common. Between times there were opportunities to discuss how people manage at home with their nutrition treatment. Flavours of the day were - the impact on the family, PEG site soreness and infections, getting away from home for a few days, holiday insurance and how to cope with the pets. We were very grateful for the donated raffle prizes to raise funds for PINNT, which included 3 lovingly crocheted bedcovers, made by a local lady, and gifts from the Homecare Companies. All left at the end of a great afternoon feeling that the time was well spent. A big thank you for all who contributed by coming along; it s you that make it!

All our activities are for adults, children and families in the Birmingham area. For more information see the PINNT website or ring the local contacts.
