Half PINNT team

The Half PINNT team is now represented by Sharon Bell and Sarah Green.

Hi, my name is Sharon and I have a son called Samuel who has been on TPN since his birth in 1998; he also has a gastrostomy and an ileostomy. My husband's name is Marty, and I also have a son called Martin, born in 1993. We live in Scotland.

I am so eager to spread the word about PINNT and let families know they are not alone. To make this happen will take more than just my work - it will involve every family that has a child on artificial feeding sharing their stories and support.

Hi, I'm Sarah and I have a son called Daniel, who has had a jejunostomy since he was 2 months old. Before this he had a gastrostomy from his birth in 1996. I also have 3 other children, Zoë, born in 1994, Jamie born in 2000 and Jo, born in 2007. We live in Kent. I am also the Membership Secretary for PINNT and I feel I would like to give back to PINNT that support I had and still have with Daniel on artificial feeding.

  • About portable PN pumps

    There are currently 5 portable parenteral nutrition pumps on the market.

    Hospira Gemstar

    Fresenius Kabi Ambix Activ.

    Nutrition centres will have personal criteria for selecting suitable pumps for their patients. Some centres have invited patients to a meeting where the pumps they feel best suit their patients' clinical needs are demonstrated, and the patient/families can select the one they think will best suit their lifestyle.

    Not everyone will be part of the decision making, but PINNT advocates that their members should be able to voice their opinions and preferences to their centres in order to ensure that the pump they use fits both their clinical and personal needs. PINNT recognises that one pump will not suit all patients.

    The reported (link shown below) details all aspects of the provision of portable PN pumps, along with some history of the provision of PN as a home therapy. You may find pages 18 - 20 a quick reference to some of the aspects of each pump that you are keen to find out.

    Please bear in mind that each individual will have personal criteria for acceptability and we hope that this information enables you to feel more informed and hopefully aid the decision making process.
    Should you wish to try an alternative pump we suggest you speak directly to your nutrition team/centre who will be able to work with you.
